Many ask me: “What is the D-Table?” Interesting answers and curiosities on the interactive Italian design table created by Danilo Cascella
D-Table.… D-Table .. Chatting with friends, old and new contacts, many ask me what the D-Table actually is, where it is made and how it works. These are just some of the questions I am asked and I must admit that noticing and stimulating curiosity in the people I speak with gives me immense pleasure because I see that the D-Table project fascinates the public and likes it. First of all, I would like to say that the mind behind the D-Table is Danilo Cascella, a dreamer like he likes to define himself, but I define him as a real businessman, born in 1966 and thirty years of experience in retail. Growing up in contact with the public, used to talking and talking, he immediately noticed how he was changing the behaviour of people with lonely looks lowered towards their devices. From here the idea of having a huge tablet, put simply, where at least at home and at work we could share what we are seeing and doing. The keyword is in fact to share, talk, tell and work looking at each other again and observing the same thing together on the same screen. But where to put this great tablet? The answer was immediate and spontaneous: “in a table”. And here is the D-Table, Danilo Cascella’s interactive multitouch table. The letter “D” of D-Table initially in fact was going to take back the name of the Designer, but with time, this chameleonic letter can be interpreted both as D of Danilo and as D of Digital or Digital in English, and D of Design. Obviously, there were already some interactive touchscreen tables but the difference is that the D-Table is not just an interactive multitouch table, the D-Table is also MULTI-USER thanks to the 100-touch film that allows five people to work simultaneously; it is of design, in fact, all the tables in the range have been designed by specialized architects and the designs are protected by Copyright; and finally, the plus, which makes me so proud, is the Made in Italy. All Multitouch tables are one by one made and assembled by the hands of Italian craftsmen and specialized IT engineers. The whole D-Table, D-Square, D-Lounge, D-Cosmo, D-Monster, D-Young, D-Easy, D-Circle range is completely handmade by Italian artisans. The technology, always up-to-date and cutting-edge, comes from the best American companies in the sector.
